Cyberpunk 2077: New bug destroys savegames, developers are working on a solution
Source: Hardware Luxx added 21st Dec 2020The single player RPG Cyberpunk 2077 was probably the most anticipated game of the year 2020. After an extremely successful publication (over a million players on Steam only 3 hours after publication), the community quickly became disillusioned. Although the vast majority of tests come to the conclusion that Cyberpunk 2077 is a good game with an exciting story and interesting characters, there seems to be just as much agreement to rule that the technical implementation is tantamount to a mean catastrophe.
On the Playstation 4 the condition of the title was even so bad that Sony forced itself out after major protests from the players saw to completely remove the game from the Playstation Store. Buyers of the digital version should also receive a full refund. This also applies to players on the Xbox from Microsoft.
Also the desktop version of Cyberpunk 2077 struggles with all sorts of bugs and performance problems. In the meantime, in addition to the official patches from the developers, there are also modders who have taken on the problem and provide modifications that are supposed to fix at least some of the problems or at least improve them.
Now a new problem seems to have appeared, which also occurs at the same time as the most serious bug could turn out to be. So there is the possibility that your own save status will be destroyed, especially after a long period of play, and can no longer be used. In the meantime, CD Projekt Red commented on the problem. As players have found out on Reddit, the savegame seems to become unusable as soon as it exceeds 8MB in size. The problem: As the playing time increases, every user will sooner or later come up against this limit. Above all, crafting and looting increase the size of the file, i.e. functions that represent core elements of gameplay. According to the developers, damaged saved games cannot be restored.
The development team states that the limit may be removed in a later patch, but until then players should try to keep their savegames smaller than 8 MB. Among other things, having as few items as possible in the inventory and material for crafting objects should contribute to this. Otherwise, you just have to wait and drink tea until the Polish developer studio has found a solution.
