Foxit PhantomPDF: Update closes remotely exploitable security holes
Source: Heise.de added 07th Jan 2021Users of the PDF software PhantomPDF who did not carry out any updates during the holidays should do so now: In version 9.7.5, the developers have closed several security holes. Under certain conditions, remote attackers could have exploited them to execute malicious code in the context of the software or to provoke program crashes.
PhantomPDF for Windows is vulnerable in versions up to and including 9.7.4. 29600. For more information, see Foxit’s PhantomPDF 9.7.5 Safety Notice. The note itself does not name any hazard classifications, but a quick search in the National Vulnerability Database (NVD) immediately returns several “high” ratings.
Users of the Windows version of PhantomPDF should update as soon as possible to version 9.7.5. In the case of an already existing installation, the update can be initiated manually via the menu item “Help” -> “Check for Updates”. The saved software versions are also available in the download area of Foxit Software.
