Godfall Reviews – Moderately Successful Anthem with Swords and Hammers
Source: Pure PC added 11th Nov 2020Tomorrow will be the premiere of Godfall by the not-so-known Counterplay Games studio, which was taken under the wings of the much more recognizable company Gearbox. On the eve of the debut of the game for the (temporary) exclusivity of the PlayStation 5 console and the Epic Games Store platform, in the case of the PC version, the first reviews appeared on the web. The mishmash of Dark Souls, Destiny, Anthem, and Borderlands, as you’d expect from Counterplay Games’ modest experience, turned out to be moderately successful, but sealed in a nice package. However, this should not come as a surprise, because the game is one of the first titles created exclusively for new-generation consoles. And critics’ reviews confirm that Godfall is a very nice slasher with untapped potential.
On the eve of the premiere of Godfall, a mix of Dark Souls, Destiny and Borderlands, the first reviews of the game have appeared. They are not very good – the average barely exceeds 60%, and the game is called Anthem with swords and axes.
Godfall – slasher hardware requirements for PC and PS5 exclusivity
Godfall collects fairly average ratings – at the time of writing, the average for Metacritic and OpenCritic is
- % i 61%. According to reviewers, the title borrows elements from games such as God of War and the Souls series (combat system) as well as Destiny and Borderlands (loot system). Some of them describe the discussed high fantasy action RPG by Counterplay Games as Anthem with swords, which is not a good recommendation (there is only no cooperation here). The fight is quite coarse and overly complicated, which makes you tired of the ubiquitous “grinding” (repetition of certain actions characteristic of the MMORPG genre). In addition, attention is drawn to a poorly drawn and modest story and, above all, the repetitive structure of the game and mission. Fans of loot gathering and slashers, however, can find advantages in it. There are also interesting mechanics in Godfall, but you can feel unused potential. Quite consistent in the reviews, there are positive voices about the graphics, which you can evaluate on the trailers and gameplays.

Game releases November 2020 – DiRT 5, Assassin’s Creed and Call of Duty
Ray tracing in Godfall will not be available at launch (we do not know the exact implementation date of ray tracing), which was set to 12 November (PC) and 19 November 2020 of the year (PlayStation 5). The PS5 exclusivity will be limited to six months and the game should make its debut on the Xbox Series X / S around 21 May 2021. It is not known whether the Epic Games Store version is also about the same period or it will be extended to one year (probably not). Finally, we left a list of Godfall ratings of selected websites (some editors have not yet given the game any notes):
