#heiseshow: Shortage of chips – why aren't there enough supplies and how much longer?
Source: Heise.de added 21st Jan 2021While the economy has recently picked up again in many places after the sometimes catastrophic pandemic year 2020, a chip shortage is now slowing down several industries. The chip manufacturers AMD and Nvidia do not assume that this will be resolved in the first half of the year. In Germany, for example, the automotive industry has recently been particularly hard hit, with the first manufacturers having to send employees on short-time work because delivery bottlenecks are slowing down production. The problem has persisted for a long time with graphics cards. We’ll talk about the reasons and further expectations in a new edition of our #heiseshow.
What exactly is missing at the moment? What do we know, what are the rumors? Who is affected and how much and when is improvement in sight? Is it just the pandemic to blame or are there other reasons as well? Does the lack of graphics cards, for example, only make them more expensive, or are the affected components simply not available at all? What is being done about the deficiency and how quickly can it also bear fruit?
These and many other questions – including the audience – discuss Jürgen Kuri (@jkuri) and Martin Holland (@fingolas) with c ‘t editor Christof Windeck and Mark Mantel from heise online in a new episode of #heiseshow, live from 12 Clock.
