The latest example is a previously leaked draft for a declaration by the EU Council of Ministers. With reference to the terrorist attack in Vienna, it calls for “innovative approaches” and technical solutions for breaking encryption. This renewed demand for back doors in Whatsapp, Signal & Co. was immediately followed by massive criticism, how things will continue is not yet foreseeable. On this occasion, we want to summarize in the current #heiseshow what speaks against the weakening of encryption.

How widespread is secure encryption and what is the differences between the different forms? Why is only end-to-end encryption a real protection and where can you find it? What problem do investigators have? What is behind the concepts of a master key or a back door, what are other “innovative approaches” to breaking the protection?
