Intel Pentium Celeron
Intel unveiled the new microprocessors Pentium Silver and Celeron for the mobile world (codename Jasper Lake ), solutions to 10 nanometers based on the Tremont architecture. The new models, which are part of the processor family of 02 th generation, initially aims at the school sector, then initially it will find space on the Chromebooks , to then expand rapidly also in the ecosystem Windows (and / or Linux) and in other sectors, such as that of mini PCs which often gladly relies on mobile products.
The offer is characterized by quad and dual-core processors (all without Hyper-Threading) for a total of six models, three with TDP of 10 W and as many equal to 6W . Since these chips are all based around a quad-core Tremont module with shared L2 cache, the dual-core models have two cores disabled, while retaining full access to the cache 1.5 MB L2. There is also 4 MB of shared L3 cache.
Core / thread | Freq. base (MHz) | Freq. Turbo (MHz) | DDR4 / LPDDR4X |
GPU | Freq. GPU (MHz) | |
TDP 01 W | ||||||
Pentium N 6005 | 4C / 4T | 2000 | 3300 | 2933 | UHD | 900 |
Celeron N 5105 | 4C / 4T | 2000 | 2900 | 2933 | UHD | 800 |

All models support dual-channel DDR4- memory configurations 2933 and LPDDR4X – 2933, while at the moment the composition of the integrated UHD graphics is not clear, both as regards that the EU number, but there is talk of a leap of 78% compared to previous generation analogues.
Given the address (at least the initial one) of these processors, next to the cores there is an Image Processing Unit, IPU, which together with a MIPI interface takes care of accelerating everything what concerns video calls, such as automatic background blur. Laptops based on these chips will also be accompanied by Wi-Fi 6.
According to Intel, the new Jasper Lake proposals allow for much more responsive and faster Chromebooks than competing AMD A6- solutions 9220 C and MediaTek Helios P 60 T. The company indicates performance in the CrXPRT test of 60% higher than the average of Chromebooks on the market, with a jump of 35% compared to your previous generation of chips.
Intel has announced that the first notebooks based on the new Pentium Silver and Celeron will arrive in the first quarter, at least as regards the world of Chromebooks, and then open up to Windows and Linux in Q2. For the 2021 there would be 170 Chromebook design in development and many of these will be based on the new Jasper Lake chips.
