Rumors have been circulating for several months that Apple would be using mini-LED displays instead of LCD screens for the next generation of iPad Pro. Apple should use an IPS panel with a background lighting between 1. 000 and 10.000 has small LEDs that could be dimmed in hundreds of zones. This should not only enable significantly higher contrasts to be achieved, but also a longer battery life.

The South Korean trade journal The Elec now claims to have received information that suggests that Apple will be in the second half of the year 2021 plans to bring iPads with OLED displays to the market. Allegedly, Samsung and LG, which also supply the OLED displays for the current iPhone generation, are currently developing larger OLED screens that are intended for tablets and intended for Apple.

If both are true, Apple could launch two iPad Pro models in the coming year. One in spring with a mini LED display, which could be replaced by an OLED display model in autumn. The current iPhones and the Apple Watch Series 6 are also a strong indicator for iPads with OLED screens. Apple is already using organic LEDs for both products.

It remains to be seen whether Apple will really introduce two iPad Pro models with different display technologies within a year, or whether the group will ultimately decide on just one model.
