“Mass Effect”: Remaster of the sci-fi trilogy and new offshoot in the works
Source: Heise.de added 09th Nov 2020Developer Bioware is working on a new edition of the popular action games of the “Mass Effect” trilogy. The three action role-playing games around protagonist Commander Shepard will be combined as a remaster in the “Legendary Edition”, Bioware has now announced. It should appear in spring 2021. In addition, a completely new part of “Mass Effect” is in the works.
As a remaster, the “Legendary Edition” of “Mass Effect” is concentrated -Trilogy primarily based on visual embellishments. In a blog post, Bioware promises higher resolutions, higher frame rates and “visual improvements”. In addition, the remaster should include all DLCs for the three games as well as some additional equipment. Conversely, this means: Playful improvements are not to be expected.
“Mass Effect” still has fans The first “Mass Effect” part appeared 2007 and was a hit despite the hacky gameplay. In Part 2 and Part 3, Bioware turned back the role-playing freedoms a little and concentrated more on the gameplay: “Mass Effect 2” and “Mass Effect 3” play as third-person shooters with a cover system. The “Mass Effect” games are also known for their dialogue wheel and their moral system. All three titles in the trilogy are considered excellent games and still have a large community.
According to Bioware, the “Legendary Edition” is primarily being developed for PC, Xbox One and PS4. A patch with further optimizations will be released for Playstation 5 and Xbox Series X.
No information on the new part Bioware has not yet revealed anything about the new “Mass Effect” part, which is also in development. After completing the trilogy, Bioware 2007 tried a new beginning in the “Mass Effect” universe: “Mass Effect: Andromeda” is playing long after the main story in a different galaxy with completely new characters. Fans and the trade press completely panned the action role-playing game: Among other things, this was due to the disastrous technical condition in which “Andromeda” came onto the market. But the characters were also criticized.

So it is unclear whether Bioware will be after this devastating criticism of one “Andromeda” successor tried – or possibly a completely new “Mass Effect” chapter opens. A direct successor to “Mass Effect 3” is not completely ruled out due to the various possible end sequences of the action role-playing game.
Bioware is currently working on a new part in the “Dragon Age” universe, about which there is no information either. The cult RPG studio, which once developed “Baldur’s Gate” and “Knights of the Old Republic”, recently hit the water with flops like “Mass Effect Andromeda” and “Anthem”, and many even predicted the end of Bioware. The pressure on the studio belonging to EA is correspondingly high to deliver again well-known quality with the upcoming titles.
