Mountain
Mountain is a startup based in Germany that is entering the gaming peripherals market in a decisive way aggressive. It aims to offer complete and highly performing solutions that meet the needs of players who love the competitive environment. We met it in particular with the keyboard Mountain Everest , a highly modular solution with a series of precautions that deserve attention.
Makalu Mountain Gaming Mouse 67: performance and customization
Makalu 67 is the company’s first product to reach the mass distribution stage and to be reviewed. According to Mountain every single component of its peripherals has been selected by hand on the basis of two criteria: performance and customization . This mouse is characterized by a very light shell made with a high number of slots in order to ensure stability and at the same time usability. It is a design patented by Mountain that differs in the complexity and resistance of the materials.
Makalu 67 is therefore a solution that mainly meets the needs of players who like to interface with agile peripherals: after a few minutes of use you have the feeling of not holding anything and having a direct connection with the game system. This applies to the intrinsic lightness of the peripheral but also to the layout and feedback on the buttons and, very importantly, to the cable that connects it to the system, of the flexible type as we increasingly see in the latest design peripherals. This helps make the device almost as agile as if it were a wireless device.
Let’s talk about a mouse that equips the sensor PixArt PAW 3370 , capable of reaching to the sensitivity of 19 thousand DPI . This guarantees a high level of accuracy, with a significantly lower error rate than that of most sensors available on the market. The lifting distance , i.e. the distance from the surface at which the tracking of the peripheral is interrupted, is also 3 times lower. The 3370 provides, in fact, higher performance than the recent PixArt sensors, such as the 3360 that we find on Glorious Model D and on Zowie EC1-B or the 3389 equipped with HyperX Pulsefire Pro .
The switch are of type Omron 50 m , accredited as the longest-lived in the category. The pressure that derives from this on the buttons is soft, and delicate and immediately available to the touch is also the scroll wheel. But obviously the most peculiar feature of Mountain Makalu 50 is the conformation of its body, which guarantees a particularly low weight and returns the sensation of extreme reactivity, but also of stability on the support surface. The mouse has a weight of only 67 grams , even lower than that of the peripheral, a reference point in the sector in this regard , i.e. Glorious Model D, and slightly heavier than the weight of Cooler Master MM 710 , 53 grams.
Mountain Makalu 67 has a ‘i m handle for right-handers particularly congenial for players who like the setting “Palm Grip” . Underneath you have feet 100% PTFE , which guarantee optimal sliding on almost all surfaces. The mouse works perfectly without software and its sensitivity can also be physically adjusted using the button located on the center of the device. Immediately above four small LEDs indicate the level of sensitivity set and allow the player to have a clear perception of which setting is currently active. By default the levels of are set , 800, 1200, 2000 is 19000 DPI .
We said that the Mountain mouse works without software, but installing Base Camp enables a series of interesting functionality, as well as the opportunity for customization. First of all, the latter allows you to enable and customize the RGB lighting , visible in the rectangular diagram in the center of the peripheral. There are presets “Static” , “Color Wave” and “Breathing” , and then there is the mode “Custom” . Through the latter you can choose one of the 16, 7 million colors for each of the 8 zones into which the area with lighting is divided.
The software allows you to configure many other aspects, starting from the Key Binding of the buttons, or to associate a specific function to each of the six buttons made available by Mountain Makalu 67. Operating system functions such as opening the browser or task manager, macros, opening specific programs, multimedia elements, keyboard button combinations, can be associated with a decidedly comprehensive approach. The next section also allows you to configure the macros , offering the possibility of recording combinations of actions with mouse and keyboard, and to set delays between the various actions.
The most interesting section is “Settings” where you can freely configure the DPI levels and polling rate, i.e. the frequency of communications between the mouse and the keyboard, from a minimum of 125 Hz to a maximum of 1000 Hz. You can also customize the scroll speed of the on-screen cursor (separately from the sensitivity in DPI) and the speed of the double click . Base Camp also allows you to establish the latency with which the pressure of a button must be transmitted to the system, with value lower than 2 thousandths of a second. Finally, Angle Snapping (motion prediction) and lifting distance can also be configured: the former can be enabled or disabled, while the latter can be set to “Low” or “High”.
The motion prediction is that function that alters the transmission of the mouse in such a way to allow, for example, the creation of perfect geometric figures. Normally it is very difficult to draw precise straight lines, precisely because of the high level of precision of the sensors, capable of replicating even the smallest variations to the motion imparted to the peripheral. Of course in the gaming field it can be useful in specific circumstances, but very deleterious when you need maximum precision. So, rightly so, the software allows you to freely set it.
Base Camp is therefore very complete in almost all aspects. Compared to other mouse software, it offers more functions because, for example, Logiteg G Hub and Razer Synapse does not give way to configure the latency when pressing the buttons, the lifting distance
