There are only four days left until the end of Epic Games Store’s action, where we are flooded with free games. Until now, you could add to your library, among others Cities Skylines, The Long Dark, Alien: Isolation, Metro 2033 Redux, Tropico 5 or Darkest Dungeon. Quite a nice set, although some turned out to be repetitions, even the extraordinary Inside, but there were also noteworthy titles, to which you can now also add Night in the Woods. It is a Kickstarter-funded two-dimensional platformer by the independent studio Infinite Fall with an intriguing presented world, an atmospheric artistic layer, a well-written story and even better dialogues. Don’t be fooled by the visuals, because the game is more serious and darker than it seems at first glance.

Night in the Woods is another free game donated by Epic Games Store. The offer for an atmospheric platformer in the atmosphere of Twin Peaks is valid only 24 hours a day – until 28 December until 17: 00.

Forty years have passed as one day, so the favorite games of a forty-year-old once again. They used to make good games

Night in the Woods was originally released in February 2017 year on PC and PlayStation 4, and a few months later, an extended Weird Autumn Edition was released with new content, which, of course, is included in the version of the game made available for free by the Epic Games Store. The platformer gained recognition in the eyes of critics, collecting average ratings at the level of 88% (PC edition by Metacritic). Gamers also rate it well (7.5 on Metacritic and up to 94% of positive reviews on Steam). The offer is valid only for 24 hours – until 28 December until 17: 00 Polish time.

Premieres December games 2020 – Cyberpunk 2077, Worms , Sam & Max

In the game, let’s get to know the fate of a twenty-year-old cat named Mae (Margaret Borowski), who decides to return to her hometown, mining town of Possum Springs full of anthropomorphic animals. Nothing is there as it seems and the atmosphere is reminiscent of Twin Peaks. Despite the seemingly calm start and almost cartoonish graphics, you can feel like in the disturbing climate of crime series, and the game itself begins to hit serious tones. It is true that Night in the Woods belongs to the genre of exploratory platformers, the main emphasis is on the story, characters and dialogues rather than platform sequences, although it does not lack arcade mini-games straight from, for example, Guitar Hero. Ultimately, the game is closer to Oxenfree than Rayman, also in terms of climate.
