Sony Playstation
Good and bad news for fans eagerly awaiting the arrival of PlayStation 5 in their homes . Details on geo-blocking, PlayStation Now, external USB devices, 8K resolution support and many other aspects of the new console arrive, via a long list of FAQs posted on Sony PlayStation official website .
From the long list of frequently asked questions we learn that PS5 games are not blocked at the geographic area, i.e. the new console is region free . This means that it will be possible to buy, for example, a Japanese or North American version of a game and play it on the console purchased in Europe.
PlayStation 5: support for Futuristic 8K
Less exciting is the lack of resolution support 8K at launch : “PS5 can be connected to a display 8K at launch and, following a future system software update, will be able to play resolutions up to 8K, when the content is available, with supported software “Which is somewhat predictable, given the fact that 8K resolution support should be considered as futuristic. In fact, in order to benefit from it, you will need not only the suitable TV but also the content compatible with this resolution.
PlayStation Now is already supported by PS5, allowing you to play some titles through Sony’s cloud gaming resources. Among other things, just like for PS4, it is the only way to play old titles for PS2 and for PS3 .
There are restrictions instead , about gaming via external USB storage drives : we read, in fact, that “players cannot transfer PS5 games to a USB drive. For game play, PS5 titles must be stored on the drive. Ultra-high speed internal console SSD. We are considering allowing players to store (but not play) PS5 games on a USB drive via a future update “. At launch, external USB devices will then allow you to play PS4 games but not PS5 . Obviously they can be used for the management of multimedia contents and for the installation of system updates .
USB peripherals such as mice and keyboards are supported at the PS5 operating system level, but obviously the availability within the games is determined by the choices of the developers.
