Heise online has already been in the next generation of games for two weeks: Tests with the Playstation 5 show a powerful game console with an outstanding gamepad. The PS5 overshadows its predecessors primarily with a massive increase in performance, as our detailed review of the PS5 on heise + shows. The SSD in particular pays off straight away: Menus and switching between apps and games become faster, loading times become shorter.

Both variants of the PS5 – the 500 – Euro version differs differ from the 400 -Euro version only through a built-in Blu-ray drive – come with a built-in NVMe SSD. She especially shows off games that Sony has optimized for the new architecture. Astro’s Playroom and Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales plays the Playstation 5 with no noticeable loading times, while Miles Morales on the PS4 is about 20 for seconds staring at a classic loading screen.

Test meeting for Playstation 5 from heise online.

But other games still need a while on the PS5: The loading time of Red Dead Redemption 2 drops from about one minute (PS4) to 40 seconds (PS5 ), heise online also found similar values for The Last of Us Part 2. A function with which you can quickly switch back and forth between different games without losing game progress is missing, however. Also problematic: Only 695 GByte of 825 GB SSD can be used for games.

Old games, new silences If the Playstation 5 is standing, the stand can be screwed on. The console and stand are a bit wobbly when lying down.

Like the new Xbox When starting consoles, the Playstation 5 relies primarily on games that have already been released for the Playstation 4. Such titles run better especially when developers optimize them for the new generation. Then players can look forward to additional effects such as ray tracing and higher frame rates. Thanks to the HDMI 2.1 interface, the PS5 supports up to 120 FPS at 4K resolution. Titles with previously unstable frame rates such as Dark Souls 3 and Final Fantasy XV benefit directly from the increased performance of the PS5 and appealed to you in our tests 60 – FPS limit often out.

The fact that the Playstation 5 already plays better, especially when there are already published titles, is also due to the lower volume: heise online was only able to measure around 0.4 sone during gaming this is hardly noticeable at a typical distance from the sofa. This is a huge difference, especially when compared to the noisy PS4 Pro. The drive of the 448 Euro expensive However, the disc version still made a lot of noise and the not always stable base sometimes gave off noisy vibrations on the shelf. The PS5 was tested up to 60 Degree warm, that is not extraordinarily hot.

The gamepad makes the difference The star of the new PS5 is the gamepad: The dualsense controller: It has been redesigned Equipped with vibration motors that enable extremely precise force feedback. Different surfaces feel very different in the hand due to the subtle vibrations: Snow, water, sand, all of this can only be differentiated in the pre-installed exclusive game Astro’s Playroom based on the controller feeling. The force feedback of other gamepads just feels clumsy in direct comparison. The variable shoulder buttons (triggers) L2 and R2, whose resistance games can adapt to the current in-game situation, are also really good. This brings a breath of fresh air into the game and can also work with an update on games that were originally published for Playstation 4.

The gamepad is the main reason why the Playstation 5 conveys a little more next-gen atmosphere than the Xbox Series consoles, which are primarily defined by the hardware upgrade. Technically and externally, however, the PS5 is not completely convincing: The Xbox is a bit stronger and makes a more robust impression.

The launch range of the Playstation 5 is still a bit thin, with Astro’s Playroom, Marvel’s Spider- Man and the remaster of Demon’s Souls are at least a few interesting games available. The upgrade is already worthwhile for PS4 owners if, in addition to these new games, they also value improvements to old titles and want to get rid of the booming PS4 noise machine in the living room. The console will appear internationally on 12. November, but will not be available in Germany until 19. November offered.
