The PlayStation 5 design will not have convinced everyone, but it seems to offer great freedom of customization with its faceplates. Sony is not of the same opinion and forced a small company to cancel the sale and distribution of custom PS5 cases.

Since the reveal of PlayStation 5 , Sony’s next-gen console design has been the subject of long discussions among eagerly awaited gamers. There are those who appreciate futuristic lines, those who prefer the more minimalist style of Xbox Series X and there are those, like PlateStation , we saw a great opportunity.
In short, PS5 can actually be customized by users, but the Japanese giant does not seem to appreciate this idea, to the point of taking serious measures.
Custom PS5? Sony collides with PlateStation
With the official teardown made last month, Sony has unveiled a relevant detail of the PlayStation 5 design: i two faceplates that protect the internal hardware can be easily removed, without having to use the screwdriver or other tools.
Most importantly, this would allow users to mount any custom covers, changing the color and style of the console chassis.
The first company to catch the ball it was PlateStation , which a few weeks ago inaugurated the presale of its custom covers: PS5 would have gotten a color black, red or blue; the startup had even made a chrome model. The selling price? Approximately 40 dollars , just enough to take home two customized faceplates with which to replace the original pieces.
For a few days PlateStation has received several pre-orders, but Sony intervened with the threat of legal action against the small producer. So here, last week, the company was forced to change its name to Customize My Plates and to cancel all pre-orders of custom cases.
A a spokesperson for the startup commented on what happened in an interview with the VGC newspaper. With the aforementioned rebranding, the company believed it could proceed with the sale of the faceplates, but it did not: “Sony’s intellectual property extended to faceplates “. If Customize My Plates had continued to sell other covers it would soon have ended up in court.
As I ?? m sure some of you will be finding out. Due to patent and intellectual property issues we will be canceling all orders and processing refunds. We ?? ll work hard over the weekend to get this done so please bare with us. Once complete you ?? ll receive an email.

Many greetings to the Customize My Plates project, for now. Users will still be free to customize the covers of their console, acting as artists or opting for similar solutions offered by other companies, such as the skins created by Dbrand.
