Windows 10 allows users to reset the operating system installation on a PC. This is useful, for example, if the operating system is damaged and no longer works. This function is available to administrators in the settings of the operating system in the recovery category under ‘Reset this PC’ – but there are difficulties with this, as Microsoft now admits.

There seems to be certain constellations in which the reset fails and the process aborts. Microsoft writes in a recently published support document that resetting under certain hardware configurations in Windows 10 Version 2004 could fail with an error. The process fails and the user then sees the message: ‘There was a problem resetting your PC. No changes were made.’

Microsoft releases workaround In the support article, Microsoft provides a workaround that those affected can try to repair the system. To do this, an administrative command prompt must be opened. This is done by entering the command cmd in the search box the taskbar and calling up the hit via the context menu command ‘Run as administrator’.

Then the command dism / online / cleanup-image / restorehealth to repair the image from the administrative command prompt.
