Google has announced the preview of the integration of .NET Core 3.1 with the GCP service Cloud Functions. This gives developers the opportunity to use cloud functions from their preferred .NET runtime environment (Windows, Mac, Linux), for example for serverless applications or in the mobile and IoT environment. The Functions Framework for .NET is available as open source on GitHub for developing the functions.

The functions created with the Functions Framework for .NET can be executed locally and provided via the fully managed cloud service Cloud Functions or other .NET environments. Developers can also grant the functions access to resources in virtual private cloud networks (VPC) in order to create applications for real-time data processing, video, image and mood analysis or even chatbots and virtual assistants.

The Functions Framework for .NET currently supports HTTP and CloudEvent functions, which are useful for webhook / HTTP use cases as well as Google Use the Pub / Sub, Cloud Storage and Firestore cloud services. The framework also has templates ready that developers can use both on the command line and in Visual Studio – including those for F # and Visual Basic.
