With the game streaming capture box GC 553 Live Gamer Ultra, the manufacturer AVerMedia claims to be the next generation of live game capture. The company is primarily targeting gamers who are looking for a small and easy-to-connect device that is suitable for mobile use and can easily be used with a notebook. We have tested in practice what the capture box can do.

Since video games are becoming more and more popular, the topic of gaming has long been a part of society. Gaming is by no means only reserved for the younger generation. With the increased interest, “Let’s Plays” has developed its own sub-genre that has drawn millions of people under its spell. Whether recordings on YouTube or live streams on Twitch – let’s players are happy about immense audience numbers. Furthermore, the numerous videos not only include gaming sessions, in which the topicality of the title is in the foreground and you can get an impression before buying. There are also so-called speed runners among the Let’s players. The point here is to play through a game as quickly as possible and thus set a new record.

Although current systems usually have a corresponding function to record the course of the game, this is noticeable in the system load. Those who specialize in retro games, on the other hand, necessarily need an external recording option, unless they emulate the games on their own computer. For this reason, Hardwareluxx has the Game Streaming Capture Box GC 553 Live Gamer Ultra from AVerMedia took a closer look and subjected to a practical test.

Thanks to the USB 3.1 interface, the GC 553 easily with a laptop and can be used flexibly. The box is capable of a 4K 60 – HDR signal to be looped through without loss. Thus, gamers do not have to accept any loss of quality, even with high-resolution game content, if the next session is to be recorded for posterity. However, the image material can be recorded in a maximum of 4K resolution with 30 FPS.
