The reasons for the withdrawal by Sony are quickly explained: The console versions sometimes lag behind the PC version from an optical point of view. But this is no surprise given the computing power it offers. Obviously, the decisive factor is that the Compatibility Mode on the PlayStation 5 still works quite well, while the PS4 version is struggling with major problems. Users report poor overall performance, low FPS (or strong drops) and pop-ins of textures.
CD Projekt Red responded to the criticism shortly after the launch and received a refund offered for the PS4 and Xbox One version. Due to the return mechanism, this was not as easy in the PlayStation Store as in the Microsoft Store.
In the meantime there is also a statement from CD Projekt Red:
“The decision was undertaken following our discussion with Sony Interactive Entertainment regarding a full refund for all gamers who had purchased Cyberpunk 2077 via PlayStation Store and want a refund at this time. All copies of the game previously purchased digitally on PlayStation Store remain available for use by their respective buyers. Gamers can still buy physical versions of the game in retail and mail order stores. All copies, whether digital or physical, will continue to receive support and updates from the Company. “
Players who want to continue playing Cyberpunk 2077 on the PlayStation and Xbox can do so too. Updates and patches will of course still be delivered. It is not known when Sony intends to resume the game in the store.
