SR Display allows you to view a stereocopic 3D model from different angles without any additional equipment by tracking the position of the user’s eyes and rendering the subject from the right angle for the user’s eyes. Sony has released an interesting new display technology. Spatial Reality Display allows you to view 3D images without the need for separate glasses or other similar accessories.

Spatial Reality Display is based on Sony’s Eye-Sensing Light Field Display (ELFD) technology. The screen is 15 in size, 6 inches and offers the user a full 4K resolution. Micro-sized lenses are mounted on top of the screen to divide the pixel into the right and left eyes, eliminating the need for separate stereoscopic glasses or the like. In addition, the display features a High-speed Vision Sensor that monitors the position of the user’s eyes in all three dimensions to render the image from the right angle to the user.

However, the technologies used also place limitations on the display. The display can only be used by one user at a time and the viewing distance must be 30 – 75 centimeters. Viewing angles are also quite limited: 20 degrees up, 40 degrees down and 25 degrees left and right. The monitor is connected to a computer with an HDMI connector and a USB 3.2 Gen 1 Type-C connector.

According to a Sony press release, its software development kit is compatible with Unity and Unreal Engine game engines, making it easier to deploy the monitor in a variety of projects. According to the company, the screen has been tested in the automotive and film industries, among others.

The Sony SR Display will go on sale during November. The company has priced its technology relatively reasonably
