Sometimes you need to try to do something different , both to probe the interest of customers and to try to open new segments. This motto is valid in all sectors, not least in that of photography .
The traditional camera market has been engulfed by smartphone competition in recent years, relegating the photographic sector back to the niche of enthusiasts, after the binge of compact cameras, which it had put in its hands all one camera.
There have been some attempts at hybridization between cameras and smartphones, but no one has ever convinced: from the Galaxy Camera by Samsung, a compact with zoom optics and Android operating system, to the additional zoom modules or with Sony’s large sensor.
A real super telephoto lens for smartphones
In the last period, Canon has put interesting experiments on the plate, such as the PowerShot Zoom spotting scope camera, and it seems willing to continue on this experimental path. Some details and renderings unearthed by Canon News suggest that the Japanese giant wants to try the path of the add-on module for smartphones, focusing, similar to what was done with the PowerShot Zoom, on the long range of the focal excursion to attract attention.
The design is very particular and is based on a module to be attached to the smartphone and, probably connected to an app shooting in wireless mode, not equipped with zoom, but with additional lenses that can be attached via magnetic system to lengthen the focal length. Given the path taken with PowerShot Zoom, it is not impossible for Canon to try to really bring the idea to the market.
