Many are the users who have used Apple devices applying what is called a “jailbreak” , something that in a way is equivalent to rooting an Android device to have full control over it. However, it has almost always been about tablets and smartphones, as would be the iPad and iPhone , but in this case , what they have managed to do through the Checkra1n tool has been to enter the first generation HomePod.
While the benefits of unlocking an iPhone may be quite clear, those of unlocking a speaker may be more opaque, especially if we are not users of the Apple ecosystem, but ultimately, a HomePod with jailbreak allows you to connect to the speaker via SSH with Root access , something that allows us to alter files, settings, or change the operating system completely.
The main uses of this jailbreak would be to allow the speaker output sound from applications not officially supported , use it as a wireless speaker on Android, Windows or other devices without AirPlay support , or allow third-party voice assistants like Mycroft or Firefox Voice to work in place of Siri.
As always, there are some security risks to take , which in the case of the HomePod are more delicate as it is a device without a screen in which n or we can monitor the status as easily as in the case from our own Smartphone.
