Fujifilm has released a firmware update for its medium format camera, the GFX 100, which with a sensor of 102 megapixel became one of the best cameras for forensic photography, as well as art preservation , although it is a multipurpose camera.
However, a firmware update has managed to increase the resolution at which images can be taken to a total of 400 MP, and an interesting part of it is the form in which this has been achieved with a 100 MP sensor, since no tricks have been used to increase digit resolution
Instead, the camera will take 16 photos continuously moving the camera sensor in different directions, first one pixel and then half a pixel, thus allowing to physically move the sub-pixels and getting color information where we normally wouldn’t have it.
Fujifilm is not the first to implement this system , since other brands such as Sony already used a similar system, taking 16 images into separate files to be combined manually , while In the case of Pentax we find a simplified version that takes four images and embeds them in the same RAW file , of So although the effective resolution of the image is not increased, we do have a higher color resolution.
