One of the shortcomings of Sony’s new console, the PlayStation 5 or PS5, is the absence of support for VRR or “Variable Refresh Rate”. This technology, which in the PC world we usually know for its commercial implementations of AMD (FreeSync) and NVIDIA (G-SYNC) or by the standard of the VESA (Adaptive-Sync), allows to synchronize the rate images per second that the console generates with the HZ rate of the monitor or television. In this way, problems such as tearing are avoided and input lag is reduced as v-sync is not necessary.

The PS5 will have to wait for a future update to be compatible with VRR

TVs with HDMI 2.1 support can support that technology, so the Xbox Series X users will be able to use VRR on their consoles, something that the Sony model cannot do.

At least at the time of its launch, since Sony itself has ensured that they will include support for VRR in the future through a software update. The company has not specified when this update will be launched and if there will be any extra requirement beyond having a TV with HDMI 2.1
