During today’s Huawei event, the Mate series of smartphones played the first fiddle 40. However, the show did not end there. Among the novelties, there is a cheaper version of the Huawei Sound X speaker, simply named as Huawei Sound, priced at 199 euro. The manufacturer also showed the second generation of smart glasses – Huawei x Gentle Monster Eyewear II. There was also something for fans of headphones, i.e. around-the-ear designs of Huawei FreeBuds Studio. Below we add all the known information about the mentioned glasses and headphones, i.e. the specification and functionality. Unfortunately, it is not known yet when we can expect these devices in stores. As for prices, at the moment they are known only in euro.

During today’s event, Huawei next to the Mate series 40 introduced its new smart glasses Huawei x Gentle Monster Eyewear II and wireless Huawei FreeBuds Studio over-ear headphones.

Premiere of Huawei Mate smartphones 40 , Mate 40 Pro and Mate 40 Pro +

Let’s start with the smart glasses. Huawei x Gentle Monster Eyewear II is to protect your eyes from the sun, allow you to make phone calls and listen to music in an unusual and – as the manufacturer assures – convenient way. The new generation of Huawei x Gentle Monster Eyewear II uses flexible, titanium hinges with a lower – compared to the first version of the device – density, thanks to which the glasses have become lighter. Huawei also claims that the use of titanium elements has raised a better level of their balance. Compared to the first version of the device, which was premiered in 2019, the also the angle of curvature of the temples from 11 ° to 20 °. All this is to make the Huawei x Gentle Monster Eyewear II offer the highest wearing comfort. The temples of the Huawei x Gentle Monster Eyewear II glasses use new speakers with a thin membrane 128 mm² with an amplitude of 0.5 mm. Another novelty introduced to the speakers of the glasses is the technology of automatically reducing the volume depending on the acoustic environment.

Thanks to this solution, as well as the improved speaker design, the propagation of the sound is limited even by 12 dB, compared to the previous version of the device. The ability of bystanders to hear the conversation with their glasses is therefore limited, even in quiet environments. The glasses support new gesture detection features. In order to pair them with a smartphone, users only need to gently pinch the glasses temple on the left side of the face. To play the next or previous song, as well as adjust the volume, you just need to swipe the left earpiece a few times without removing the phone. In the event that the user has removed the glasses, the music will automatically stop and resume if the user puts them on again within three minutes. The new generation is equipped with a battery that allows you to play music for 5 hours without interruption on a single charge. Moreover, the Eyewear II is equipped with wireless fast charging technology. They will appear in a classic sunglass version and as frames dedicated to prescription glasses. Their price is 299 Euro.

The first wireless over-ear headphones from the brand were also shown during the event – Huawei FreeBuds Studio . The structures are equipped with intelligent dynamic noise reduction (ANC) technology and three modes that can be switched depending on the changing sound in the environment. Importantly, they can be connected to two devices at the same time, without having to disconnect one of them if you want to use the other. An important fact for many users may be the fact that the headphones have a double antenna for Bluetooth coverage 360 °. Even in places with strong signal interference, such as airports, the dual antenna design is designed to identify and automatically switch to another antenna with a stronger signal. The headphones are equipped with relatively large ear cups with dimensions 65 x 42 mm, so they have to adapt to any shape of the ear. The earpieces are made of soft and comfortable protein leather, and the headband can be extended to 960 degrees. Fully charged headphones will allow you to play music using ANC for 19 hours or until 24 hours with ANC disabled.

Already 10 minutes of charging should allow for 5 hours of operation with ANC on or 8 hours – without ANC. The headphones are designed to support a wide range of frequencies – from 4 to 48 kHz. Four-layer 40 – millimeter diaphragm Polymer, in turn, is to generate a wider range of transmission and higher sensitivity, while Huawei’s L2HC wireless audio codec technology proposes a sound transmission speed of up to kbps. Added to all this is the two-layer structure of sound insulation “TAT” and intelligent dynamic ANC, allowing noise reduction to 40 dB. Thanks to the built-in IMU sensor and microphone system, the headphones detect sound from the outside world and adapt to the environment to achieve better noise reduction effects. FreeBuds Studio supports an “awareness” mode (PassThrough, HearTrough), which allows you to talk to others without removing your headphones. What’s more, the new six-microphone noise reduction system during calls allows you to pick up the voice in a directional way and focus words as effectively as possible, cutting out background noise. The price of the headphones is 299 Euro.
