With the launch of the new Apple M1 processors with ARM architecture , one of the things that users saw that could not be done would be a double boot with Windows and macOS , something that until now had been quite useful for users who needed to make use of software only available for Windows.
However, the enthusiast community has got down to work, and as we see in the tweet below these lines, has managed to run Windows 10 ARM on a Mac with an Apple M1 processor , of course, making use of the virtualization that QEMU is capable of providing, an extremely open source hypervisor powerful.
While it is surprising that they managed to execute Windows 10 in one of these machines, it is not so much the fact that it is through virtualization, because Apple already mentioned during the presentation of the chip that the architecture is totally designed for software virtualization , something that would allow Linux to boot , for example.
Obviously they did not mention Windows, but it is something that with enough work can be done in the same way as has been demonstrated , and while it is still an ongoing project, it is clear that the possibility is real.
