We are already testing the Sony PlayStation 5 console! Our first impressions
Source: Pure PC added 29th Oct 2020The premiere of the Sony PlayStation 5 console will take place in three weeks, the next generation console, which is waiting for tens of thousands (if not millions) of players around the world. Recently, the marketing campaign has moved forward, thanks to which a lot of important information about the equipment has leaked to the network. We already know what the interior looks like and how the individual construction elements have been arranged. The manufacturer also boasted a new UX interface that will welcome us each time you log into the console. Three weeks before the store premiere, we received a copy of the PlayStation 5 from Sony, which we will of course test in great detail in the coming weeks. Today, however, we will share our first impressions after opening the package.
The long-awaited Sony PlayStation 5 console has arrived to our editorial office. For the next few weeks we will be carefully checking it, both in terms of hardware. and software.
Sony PlayStation 5 it came to us in a really large package. No wonder, after all, a very large console is hidden inside. It is different to see it only on rendered materials or early unboxing, and another to see it with your own eyes. The PlayStation 5 is noticeably larger than its predecessor, which is associated with the use of a much larger and – hopefully – more effective cooling system, which consists of a large fan and a massive heat sink with heat pipes. The collective packaging itself looks very nice – large graphics showing the device, information about the specification and compliance with individual audio formats (Dolby Digital, DTS HD Master Audio). In the upper left corner, we can also see three important icons that indicate the capabilities of PlayStation 5. The ability to support 8K resolution, support for 4K and maximum 120 FPS as well as HDR compatibility. The first two functionalities are completely new and directly related to the use of the HDMI 2.1 port. Let’s not hide, however, that very few games will use such opportunities, since even the top GeForce RTX 3090 has problems with it.
What will we find in the package? Of course, apart from our star – the PlayStation 5 console – there is a new DualSense pad with a built-in battery, an HDMI cable with HDMI 2.1 support, a power cable, a stand that allows for trouble-free positioning of the console vertically or horizontally and a detailed instruction manual with a warranty card. The console itself is placed inside one more cardboard box. The other accessories are placed in a separate box. In this case, we do not get a completely new standard. Everything is neatly arranged, as it was with PlayStation 4 consoles.
As for port arrangement, most of the connectors are located on the back of the case. Here we find a power port, a single HDMI 2.1 (no optical connector, as in the Xbox Series S / X), a network Ethernet RJ port – 45 with WiFi 6 support and two classic USB 3.1 Type A Gen.1 ports. On the front, in turn, we find one USB 3.1 type C port, used primarily for charging the DualSense pad, as well as a USB 3.1 type A Gen.1 port. Next to it there is an Ultra HD Blu-ray optical drive. This is a novelty for the consoles of the Japanese company, which used to stick to the standard Blu-ray drive. Thus, PlayStation 5 will also enable the launch of physical 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray discs with movies and series. For me, this is a huge plus and I hope that the drive itself will not disappoint me during use.
The new DualSense pad looks a bit more futuristic than the usual black DualShocks of the next generation – the mostly white housing gives the whole an interesting contrast and perfectly matches the colors of the console, creating a coherent whole. However, we still hope that other DualSense variants will also be available for sale, because the white color of the housing has a tendency to quickly collect dirt. As we expected, DualSense is more comfortable to hold and more like the experience of using a pad from the Xbox One console. This is mainly due to the fact that the new PlayStation 5 pad is thicker than the classic DualShock 4. The button placement itself is similar to what the controller offered in PlayStation 4, moreover, the microUSB type A port has been replaced by the new USB type C. Sony DualSense However, it is to offer several new features that were not available in any previous pad, and thanks to which the level of immersion is to increase even more.
One of the most important new features of the DualSense controller are the haptic buttons, thanks to which the player in different games and situations is to experience completely different experiences, a bit closer to reality. Sony cites racing games and driving on various surfaces such as asphalt, gravel or mud as an example. During the game, the player should feel more that the car moves on completely different surfaces. In addition, the L2 and R2 buttons have been equipped with adaptive triggers, which, for example, are to significantly diversify some actions performed in games, e.g. archery. Anticipating the questions – I haven’t launched any games yet, but it was due to a lack of time. Soon I will be able to share with you more, more detailed information about the PlayStation 5 console and the entire ecosystem built on the basis of the new console. I encourage you to follow the PurePC.pl portal, where there will be a lot of interesting materials about the new generation of PlayStation.
