Microsoft Windows
Install Windows 10 from ISO files released by Microsoft is the most comfortable mode, especially for the most demanding users in terms of control. However, it is not always easy to find the ISOs of the versions you want to install, especially when we want to install a version that is not the latest available. This at least until today: a script has in fact been disclosed that allows you to create an installation drive with any version of Windows 10, from 1507 to 20 H2 .
I ISO files represent a sector-by-sector copy of a DVD and, in the case of ISO files released by Microsoft containing various Windows installations 10, can be burned to a DVD to create a replica of the original media. Through specific procedures the user can also create a bootable drive (for example a USB drive such as a flash drive), mount it as if it were a physical drive on Windows or access the contained files by extracting them with a software such as 7-Zip.
The script to download ISOs of any version of Windows 10
The installation from ISO file is perfect especially for those who want to perform a clean installation of Windows 10 and, thanks to Universal MCT wrapper , it’s super easy to download any version of Microsoft’s operating system. To use it, you need to download it from the Github page and run the .bat file that launches the script. This will launch a screen that will allow you to select the Windows version 10 that you want to install on the system
After selecting the version, the script downloads the Media Creator Tool and other appropriate support files to automatically start the procedure of installation or media creation.
How to check if the downloaded version is the right version
Who wants to be sure that they have downloaded the desired version of Windows 10 can he carry out the verification through a very simple procedure. Double click on the downloaded ISO to mount it as an active drive, then run the Command Prompt with administrator privileges (Start Menu, type cmd, right click on Command Prompt and then Run as administrator). Once in the Command Prompt enter the following line, where for “drive_letter” you need to enter the drive where the ISO was mounted:
dism / Get-WimInfo / WimFile: : sources install.esd / index: 1
With this command you execute the Deployment Image Servicing and Management tool (DISM) , which shows the Windows version information 10 present in the ISO. The information is contained in the Version line, with the various numbers indicating a specific version of the operating system. It should be noted that this system allows you to install very old versions of the operating system, however, in the case of versions that are no longer supported, Windows Update will attempt to download the latest versions and automatically install them on computers connected to the internet.
