Microsoft has released new optional patches for the latest versions of Windows 10 : Windows 10 October 2020 Update (20 H2) and Windows 10 May 2020 Update (2004) . The two updates introduce a new button in the System Tray called Meet Now : this is a feature tested by last September, which is now offered as “optional” but will be distributed to all users with Patch Tuesday next month.
Meet Now is a new Skype feature that allows users to easily schedule a video conference, or group video, with other people. After installing the optional patch, the Meet Now button is presented in the System Tray (in the part of the taskbar applications where services are open in the background) and leads to a browser tab that allows you to start a video meeting via Skype or join a meeting that has already started. The unique feature of Meet Now is that no downloads or Skype account registration is required to join the conference. Anyone can do it.
Below are the release notes for the quality update, known as KB 4580364, which has already appeared on Windows versions 10 above:
Introducing Meet Now in the Windows 10 Taskbar
Earlier this year we introduced Meet Now in Skype. Meet Now makes it easy toconnect with anyone in as little as two clicks for free and each call can last up to 24 hours. Today, we ?? re excited to share that we will be extending this capability inWindows 10 by bringing Meet Now right to the taskbar. In the coming weeks, youwill be able to easily set up a video call and reach friends and family in an instantby clicking the Meet Now icon in the taskbar notification area. No sign ups ordownloads needed.
– Updates an issue that causes a device to stop responding after you have been using a pen for several hours.
Microsoft will bring the new Meet Now button also on Windows 10 May 2019 Update (1903) come on Windows 10 November 2019 Update (1909) . Those who use these versions can already download the optional KB patch 4590836 available from last week via Windows Update.
