Today (28 December) the new Xiaomi Mi will be presented in China 11. A few hours after the event came the news that many users feared: Xiaomi Mi 11 will not be equipped with the charger in the package , but will be sold separately. The news was spread by the same CEO of the company Lei Jun which, through a post published on Chinese social media Weibo , stated that the packaging of the new Mi 11 will be lighter and thinner. In her post, CEO Lei Jun explains how people have unused chargers at home, which she calls harmful to the environment . “We are well aware that this decision may not be understood or even complained about”, says Lei Jun who ends by suggesting that a better solution is already in the pipeline and could be adopted soon.

A video published by Lei Jun shows the packaging del Mi 11 with a text in Chinese that translates to “Pack light in 2021” , which suggests that future Xiaomi smartphones will also ship without charger.

Xiaomi and Samsung as Apple abandon the supplied charger

Xiaomi chooses to follow the policy of Apple , publicly mocked by few weeks ago from Xiaomi itself for the lack of the power supply on the iPhone series 12. The same story happened with Samsung with the elimination of the 3.5mm jack for headphones, a choice now approved by the majority of brands for their top of the range. Samsung seems to follow in the footsteps of the Cupertino giant for the Galaxy S series 21 expected next month which, in all likelihood, will be distributed without charger supplied.

The well-known leak Ice Universe said on Twitter that Xiaomi will probably treat its customers differently than Apple, giving the possibility to those who need it to receive a potential discount or voucher to purchase the charger.

Since unpacking the charger has become an industry trend, don’t be surprised if in the future other brands will adopt the same policy as Apple, Xiaomi and Samsung for their flagship smartphones.
