Introduction

Established in 2011, Xtrfy is a peripherals company based in Sweden. About a year ago, Xtrfy left quite an impression with their M4. In terms of internals, the M42 is essentially the same mouse: PixArt’s PMW3389 sensor capable of up to 16,000 CPI, Omron switches for the main buttons, a lightweight honeycomb design (58 g), high-quality pure PTFE mouse feet, a particularly flexible cable (dubbed “EZcord”), wide range of RGB lighting options, and extensive on-device configurability. What sets the M42 apart from the M4 is the fact that it’s ambidextrous and modular. The M42 can be used either with a low or high-profile back cover, introducing more options to adjust the shape to one’s liking. Xtrfy also provides the necessary files for 3D-printing a custom back cover, which gives users even more possibilities to play with. As of now, color variants in Black, White, Miami Blue, Pink, and Retro are available. For this review, I’ll be taking a look at the Black and Miami Blue variants, but unless noted otherwise, all descriptions apply to both.
