These are chaotic days to say the least for Cyberpunk 2077 and its developer. CD Projekt RED does not let itself be discouraged by the class actions and the heavy criticisms suffered in recent weeks: the software house Polish releases a new full-bodied press release to update fans on the current state of work, those relating to the next corrective patches and the expected DLCs.
We also talked about the next versions -gen in development for Xbox Series X | S and PlayStation 5 : will arrive only in the second half of 2021 .
Cyberpunk 2077 on PS4 and Xbox One: co-founder Marcin Iwiński speaks
After a short period of blackout, the developer from Warsaw once again spoke out about the complicated launch of Cyberpunk 2077, taking this opportunity to tell us about the upcoming game updates o and additional content in the design phase.
It is through the words of Marcin Iwiński that CD Projekt RED informs us about the latest advances related to the development and improvement of the RPG. In the video released a few hours ago, the co-founder of the studio gives a personal explanation of what happened with the disastrous old-gen versions (Xbox One and PS4), with attached admission of guilt .
“Cyberpunk 2077 is an extremely vast and ambitious project . Contains a multitude of custom objects, systems and mechanics interconnected with each other. In the game, not everything develops on flat horizons where we can make things less demanding from the hardware point of view, but rather condensed into a big city and in an environment practically free of uploads “, explains Marcin Iwiński talking about the technical complexity of Cyberpunk 2077.
Iwiński then added: “We made our own life difficult by wanting to make it graphically epic on PC and adjusting its visual quality later for consoles, especially for those of the last generation. And things didn’t seem very difficult at first.
We knew about the hardware gap, yes, but in the end, I think time has shown that we underestimated the problem “.
According to the words of the producer, the main problem related to the development on the old generation consoles – or “the culprit”, as CD Projekt defines it – concerns the in-game streaming system for the previous platforms: “Because the city is so crowded and the disk transfer speed of the older generation consoles is what it is, it was a constant challenge for us “.
That’s when patches, DLCs and next-gen versions will be released
A more or less detailed roadmap also arrives from the video message published last evening of the contents provided for the 2021. Among these we find the notorious patches with which CD Projekt RED will fix most of the bugs that dot all versions of Cyberpunk 2077; the same updates will also be used to solve the crash problem – which occurred on almost all platforms – and to improve the stability of the game on console and PC.
Analyzing the roadmap we discover that the next update corresponds to Patch 1.1 and will arrive by 10 days starting from the above press release. This will be followed by Patch 1.2 , a “more significant” update that will most likely arrive in February.
As for the free DLC , these were expected for the first months of the new year, but have been “postponed” to arrive only after the aforementioned fixes. After completing the corrections, CD Projekt RED will come back to talk to us about the additional content and related releases.
Despite what might have been expected, the next-gen versions of Cyberpunk 2077 will only arrive in the second half of the year, via a free update that users will be able to install on Xbox Series X | S and PlayStation 5 .
Marcin Iwiński himself concluded by explaining that, to achieve all this, the developers of CD Projekt RED have no obligation to overtime and this is one of the “absolute priorities” of the Polish study. Regarding the removal of Cyberpunk from the PlayStation Store, the developer is working with Sony to bring the game back to the marketplace.
